Manoa Falls Details

Manoa falls tucked away in the darkest corners of the jungle exudes the feel of a world which existed in prehistoric times. Such vivacity, just miles away from the pompous city attracts visitors for its natural grandeur, reminding humans of their mechanical existence. Water gushing down from a 150 ft stiff cliff into the pool below is attraction enough for thousands of visitors to take the pains of walking for an hour or more to access it.

The pool into which the water falls like any freshwater stream might be prone to bacteria which can harm you if comes in contact with your body. Possibility of rock slides cannot be avoided as there have been such instances in the location, so general caution should always be exercised.

Manoa Falls Location

This waterfall is located in the interiors of the rainforest in Manoa, Honolulu, which can be accessed on foot by reaching the end of the Manoa Road.

Manoa Falls Trail

Hiking is not difficult in the trail, but owing to the natural environment it can be troublesome treading the path at times. The Manoa Falls Trail cuts through the deep forest of overshadowing trees of the rainforest and lush greens, making it an exciting trip. During your hiking trip, make sure you are wearing proper shoes and carrying essentials like insect repellant and drinking water.

It is not a difficult walk but you can easily stroll along the trail to your destination. It however can become muddy and slippery during the rains. It is an astounding sight once you reach the waterfall after a hike of around 1.6 miles. The trail is at an elevation of 600 ft.

Picture 2 - Manoa Falls Trail

Manoa Falls Direction

To get to the falls, you will be trekking through the woodlands after you reach Manoa Road’s last point crossing the Manoa valley. You can avail the bus which travels through the area or any other conveyance. If you are planning to hike, then better park your car in the Paradise Park. Else, you can opt to park your car in the neighboring areas which is not a safe option. After you get down from the bus which takes you till the last stoppage, you can reach the mountains by walking.

If you are on the H1 towards the east, avail the Punahou Exit 23 and read the instructions given there. Similarly while west bound, Wilder Exit 24 is going to be your route from which go further, following instructions. Get Manoa falls maps and direction from the internet before going there in order to find your way towards the beautiful location.

Administration and maintenance of the zoo is in Honolulu City & County’s responsibility. The zoo receives an annual foot-fall of 601,510. The foot-fall is raised due to the zoo’s marvelous exhibit collection of 1230 animals from around the globe.

Honolulu Zoo History

The zoo stands on the royal land granted by King David Kal’kaua for a public park. In the year 1877, the land was cleaned and beautified and opened for the public with the name of Queen Kapi’olani Park.

Since its very initial days, the park housed an excellent collection of stunning horses and striking birds. For Kamehameha Day celebration and other carnivals, more animals and birds were brought to the park to enhance the enthusiasm of the occasions.

Source – www.kaimana.com

Honolulu City & County took control over the public park in the year 1896. Ben Hollinger became the new administrator of Parks of the city, in the year 1914. He was fascinated with animals and kept increasing the collection of animals in the park.

During the Great depression in the 1930s, Honolulu Zoo was about to shut down but somehow managed to exist in great misery. The zoo revived its condition in the year 1974 with a new enthusiasm when some animals were donated to the zoo. Honolulu city and county also approved a grand plan of extension of the zoo, and the works started on renovating and extending the latest look of the zoo extending 42acres more.

It was initially established by the Honolulu Rapid Transit and Land Company for the commercial purpose. This aquarium is the third oldest aquarium in the world which has various exhibits showing the diverse marine organisms and flaunts to the world the riches of the Hawaii reef.

Waikiki Aquarium Location

The Waikiki Aquarium is located at the shoreline in 2777 Kalakaua Avenue. It is a walking distance from the Waikiki Beach. The Waikiki Aquarium was founded in 19th march 1904. It is the third oldest aquarium in the United States. Since 1919, the University of Hawaii took over the administration of the Waikiki Aquarium.

Waikiki Aquarium History

Charles M. Cooke, the director of the transit company had gifted $8000 for the construction of the aquarium and James B. Castle also had put on some contribution. Considering the state of the art at that time, the aquarium had opened with 35 tanks and 400 marine organisms and had received several commendable appreciations. The Waikiki Aquarium had its first director in 1904, Frederick A. Potter, who was a clerk at the Honolulu transit company. During the first 15 years when the aquarium was run by a private financed institution, the aquarium used to display the marine organisms collected by the local fishermen. But later with the funds received from the C.M. Cooke Estate for the marine biology laboratory, a research tradition was established.

Kilauea volcano is located within the Hawaii National Park on Hawaii’s Big Island. The word Kilauea means ‘much spreading’. It lies on the south eastern part of the Mauna Loa (mountain and volcano) which are in the districts of Puna and Kauin the Big Island of Hawaii. Approximately 13% of the Big Island is covered by the Kilauea Volcano. Kilauea Volcano is the most active and the youngest Volcano of the Hawaiian shield. It is also the world’s most active volcano. It erupts almost constantly from the vents on the rift zone and the caldera. It has records of uninterrupted eruption since 1983.

History of the Kilauea Volcano

It is estimated that the Kilauea Volcano started forming at around 300,000-600,000 years ago. According to the geological studies when the drill hole samples were examined, the surface exposure analysis were done and it was found out that it was embedded mostly of the solidified lava flow and the explosive eruption deposits.
Kilauea is considered as the home of Pele, the goddess of volcano by the ancient Hawaiian legends. There were several formations of lava named after the volcanic Goddess Pele, like the Pele’s tears which were lava droplets which cooled in the air retaining the tear like shapes. Pele’s hairs which were brittle strands of volcanic glass formed when the lava enters the ocean. According to the Hawaiian mythology, Kilauea was where Pele Goddess of volcano and the rain God Kamapua’a had conflicts between.
Kilauea Volcano has a history of eruption from three areas, its summit and the two other rift zones. The eruptions are mainly from the rift zones than from the summit area. Most of the eruptions of the Kilauea volcano are gentle and sends lava flowing down slope from a fountain of eruptions from few meters to hundreds of meters above.

Kilauea volcano Facts

Kilauea volcano is probably amongst the most active volcanoes of the world and may probably top the ranking. It is the youngest volcano of the Hawaii. Ever since 1983 the volcano has been continuously erupting from its east rift. The Kilauea volcano has erupted 62 times in 245 years, and 34 since 1952. The lava flows towards the Pacific Ocean. Most of the Kilauea surface comprises of the lava which is around 1000 years old and some parts which dates back to 600 years old.
The eruption that began on 3rd January 1983 still continues and the lava flow travels 12 km to finally vent into the sea. The Kilauea volcano eruption of the 1790 had taken away several lives. On March 25th of 2008 when the lava of the volcano reached the coast of Puna, there was a spectacular display of color and light. Since then the civil defense officials of Hawaii have set up a viewing point for the visitors to witness the amazing display when the lava meets the ocean.
The two different golf courses at Ka’anapali Beach Resort & Golf Club, Royal Ka’anapali and Ka’anapali Kai, are the perfect escape from the hectic daily life and a sporty golf holiday.

Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course

Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course was built in 1962. This is the older amongst the two courses. The name was changed from the original “Royal Ka’anapali” to “Ka’anapali North” in 1967, and was again changed back to “Royal Ka’anapali” in 2007. An extensive renovation was carried on in the course in 2006.

Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed this beautiful golf course. Royal Ka’anapali is also commonly known as “Tournament Course” since 1982-85 LPGA events hat were hosted by Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course and also the Seniors Golf Tour 1988-2000.

The lush Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course is 18-hole and 71-par course with all possible amenities like club rentals, golf pro shop, driving range, snack bar, and golf lounge are available. The Blue course is 6700yards, White course is 6267yards, Gold course is 5839yards, and the Red course is 5016yards in the Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course.

The sea-level holes are designed lower than the highway with a perfect oceanfront green at no.5. The middle holes are on the cons over the highway level. The course has been wonderfully planned with extremely munificent green and fairways which are perfect for 2-putt thanks to the illusory ripples and Bermuda grass. The varying trade winds of the tropic play an important role in the sudden game change. The 18th hole is the most appreciated hole of the course. The entire set up with water body on the left hand side from the tee position to the green and the wind helping push the ball from left side to the right side, this hole is a fantastic one to play and is a magnificent one of its kind in the entire West Maui.

Ka’anapali Kai Golf Course

Ka’anapali Kai or Ka’anapali South Course is said to be easier course to play since the very opening of the course in 1967. The course was thoroughly redesigned in 1977 but was still considered to be the easier one. In 2005 the course underwent another renovation by Robin Nelson, making it even more desirable to play. The greens at the Kai are much more effortless.

The redesigned course has been based on the natural hole-defining elements like lava rocks, planting of coconut palm and Norfolk pine, canals, and other ditches. Even two new forward tees were introduced to the more appealing holes for the beginners.

The Ka’anapali Kai Golf Course is 18-hole and 70-par course. This is perfect for starters to set hand in the trade winds of the tropic, and for the pros it can be a good warm-up session here. Given the course’s more conical fairways it is easier for the beginners to take their shot.

The Ka’anapali Kai Golf Course provides might be a better option for the beginners to play but is as pro as all other great golf courses in terms of amenities availability. Club rentals, golf pro shop, driving range, snack bar, and golf lounge are one of the best in the industry to find here. The Lava course is 6388yards, Sand course is 6010yards, Fern course is 5563yards, Hibiscus course is 4522yards, and the Red course is also 4522yards.

Operating Hours

The operating hours for the golf courses from Monday to Sunday are 6am to 6.30pm.

The driving range hours on Monday to Sunday are 6am to 5pm.
